The Master

Deyn looked down at the man lying unconscious on the floor. Then he looked at the wand. Of course, it was the Green Wand, and now that he had it, Deyn knew that he was the Master.
This man, Deyn thought, came in saying that he was the Master. But Deyn knew this could not be so, because if it was, then how was Deyn able to overpower him so easily? This man was just a tool to send the Wand to him.
Deyn stepped out of his hut. He saw the untied bundle of wood lying outside his hut. Usually he would tie it up for later use. But now he didn’t have to do that. He also didn’t need his axe anymore. Woodcutting would be a job for his Servants, he thought. First he had to tell the world that the Master had come. He would start with the nearest woodcutter, Lon. He started walking through the woods to Lon’s hut, the wand held in his hand.
He remembered his meeting with the Storyteller. He could, because that was the only time he had ever met one. He remembered the Storyteller telling him that one day, one man in the world would become the Master, and he would rule with the Green Wand. There would be only one Master and the rest would be his Servants. All confusion would end and order would be restored to the world that day.
Deyn reached the hut. He pushed the door open and went in. Lon was just about to leave, axe in hand. Deyn said, “Bow to your master, Lon.”
Lon asked confusedly, “What?”
Deyn showed him the wand and said, “See?”
Lon thought for a few moments and then was convinced. He bowed and said, “What should I do, Master?”
Deyn knew that usually there would be many things a Servant had to do, but now he could think of nothing in particular. He said, “Go and get the bundle of wood outside my hut.”
Lon went out. Deyn proceeded to survey the hut. This will be my new home, he thought, until I find a better one.
Lon returned, and placed the bundle of wood outside the hut. The door was open. Deyn was facing away from Lon, looking at a wooden statue which Lon had carved. An idea occurred to Lon. This is my only chance, he thought. From the bundle, he pulled out a thick and long piece of wood. Slowly and noiselessly, he advanced towards Deyn. Lon struck with the log. Deyn fell on the table, left hand clutching his head. Slowly he turned around. Lon plucked the wand from Deyn’s right hand. Deyn slumped down to the floor.
Lon looked down at the man lying unconscious on the floor. Then he looked at the wand. Of course, it was the Green Wand, and now that he had it, Lon knew that he was the Master.
