"It's amazing! I've never read a novel from cover to cover before
until this. And only in a singly day!"
" What do you mean?"
" Well, ever since I could remember, I only scanned the first few
pages of a novel, then instantly flipped to its last few and
voila!"
" How can you understand the story with that? "
" Well, at least I know how it started and how it ended. That's all I
needed to know. As for the story's details, I just left it to my own
imagination."
" Yeah, I'm kinda like that too sometimes. I'd rather see the film
version of the book than read it. "
" Exactly! It's like we're -- what's the word?"
"Visual? "
"Yeah, the visual type."
"So, you're not the visual type anymore? "
"Er ... I admit the movie made me read Book Three. Still, it was a
rare feat for me! I dunno but ... I think, it's the thrill of knowing
what happens to Harry next that made me do the impossible. "
"Why did you skip Book Two? "
"Joel only has Three and Four. I've got to hand it to J.K.. I didn't
even have to know what's in Book Two 'coz she had clearly explained
what led to the events in Prisoner of Azkaban. "
"Are you starting with Book Four now? "
"Yeah."
"Great! You can lend me Book Three then. "
That's how it all started. The movie, Book Three, and that casual
conversation with a friend. Thanks to these three, the once faint
glimmer of a dream, that died down a long time ago, has, once again,
been given another tiny spark.
What once were
I can't write!
My English is not good enough!
You call this writing?
Erase this ... erase that!
Oh God, they might think my writing's a big joke!
What a disaster!
gave way to a new realization. It all became clear to me what
storytelling is all about. It's not, anymore, about sounding like
William Shakespeare or the greatest writers who ever lived. It's not
even about the English language, per se. God knows, how many of those
whose native tongue is not English, like me, wish we all speak the
same. Indeed, had the Tower of Babel never been erected, I would have
had the courage to publish my first story when I was twelve. Yes,
you're absolutely correct, ABCTales! Everyone's got a story to tell.
This is mine. It is with fervent desire that through my own Connected
Tales Set, the world will allow me to weave back forlorn stories of the
past, lost in the deepest void of my soul.
What's that Ryden? When will the Unicorn Valley be told? Er ... pardon
the intrusion. It's the unicorn king, he wants to ...
Yes, Queen Ageia. The fairies' story will also be includ --
LUDWIG! WILL YOU LEAVE THAT MOUSE ALONE! Okay, fine ... your famous
battle against the dark goblins of Endor ... YES! YES!
Er ... sorry about that. Where was I? Oh, yeah ... again, I'm not
offering pen craftsmanship at its best here. What I've got are just
stories, stories I had with me as a child, stories to tell as simply as
I could. This, to me, is what storytelling is really all about. This is
where I begin. This is my story ...
