UPON THE DEAD
by Shane Waldo
Metal twists and paint chips
Breaking glass fills the air
Squealing tiers cut it in two
Pain, Shock then Death
Will They Remember
Mud spatters
As the grave is dug
Floral aromas fill teary eyes
Through black veils and handkerchiefs
Will They Remember
The precession drives home
In caskets of steel
On wheels, on a road to Death
Oblivious to the facts
Will They Remember
TV is blaring
Propaganda seeps into every corner
Of every urban American home
Smoking kills, don't drive drunk, buy a new Car
Will They Remember
People are dying of cancer
Of emphysema, heart failure, murder
Pump me full of numbers
Choke us with statistics
Will They Remember
Leave out the inconvenient
Don't take my freedom away
Blind my third eye, Because
Ignorant are blissful
