Pearl

This flurry swirls around my head
Uncalled for and unexpected
Transparent as the sunlight you catch above your eyes
Moving fluidly over your face
Uncoordinated and improvised
But steady just the same.
You drift against me softly now
As unforgiving and temporary as snow,
Yielding as ancient windswept dunes,
And my response as shuttered and closed
As an oyster. Air tight, sealed
Entirely self contained
This harsh monochrome shell
Gives way for one breath only
To the iridescent varicoloured walls
And surrenders to your oceanic pull
Revels in the strength of the tide
This captured moon bound by sinew and silk
Spills into your sallow palm,
Synthetic and conventional.
Identical. Indistinguishable.
Extraordinary.
