[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]
Oh, the riches of God’s wisdom,
– deep and infinitely wise;
perfect knowledge, rich and splendid:
who can fully realise
how profound, complete his judgements,
how unsearchable, how wise? –
ways that we can never fathom:
God of glorious surprise!
Who has known his mind, or counselled
mighty Lord, omniscient King?
Who provided for Jehovah?
He supplies the gifts we bring.
Sovereign God is no man’s debtor –
Source, Sustainer of the skies;
giving breath, and life, and mercy:
glory be to God so wise!
Tune: 87 87 D eg tunes of ‘Love Divine, all loves excelling’ eg Calon Lan or Blaenwern
('Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!
"Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counsellor?"
"Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?"
For from him and through him and to him are all things.
To him be the glory for ever! Amen.' Romans 11:33–36)
