The Senior Season

The snowfall startles a field
mouse, not yet ready for
quick thrustings over drifts
and through crowded passageways.
It’s not fair, his bed isn’t
quite prepared.
Grey, sightless eyes in a
bleary November sky
stir uneasily.
But the land,
its plants and shrubs and
trees await with anxious
pirouettes
a soothing comfort from the senior
season.
