Sometimes I wish I was blind

And then I wake up to see
The gray world that is constantly around me

Sometimes I wish I was deaf
Because Mozart might echo in my ears for an eternity
Except that echoes are easily shattered by screams
Even whispers

I could be beautifully lost in a book
Or a song that-for once-has meaning
But inspirations are few
And distractions are many

You know, I actually like my life
It's just one big distraction from my dream
A side track roller coaster that's kind of fun
But missing the ride I'd rather be on

There are times when I wish I were blind
And couldn't see that this is not Never-never land in the spring
Or better yet that I could be deaf
And not hear the motors in cars that drown out the call of the birds
that sing
