The gyrating body of the loved one
Floats effortlessly across the floor.
She sees my watching eyes and
Throws me a chilling warning.
Without a single utterance
I know my chances are practically zero.
Why can't I accept the truth?
We used to be friends,
Until the cruel chemicals were released
Into my blood, leaving me vulnerable and irrational.
That's when I made my move.
Why can't I heel the past?
I look out of the window.
The sky is grey.
The trees have no leaves,
No life.
A faceless couple stroll past,
Enjoying something special.
The night is moving in,
Darkness descends.
Why can't I feel the future?
