SOLIDS, LIQUIDS &; GAS
Chemically identical are water, ice and steam.
Heat brings the change about
from cold to a hot extreme.
Molecules in a solid are so close the force is strong.
They vibrate only slightly
and only heat can change the bond.
Liquid's force is weaker and the molecules move around
but they have to push passed each other
as the force keeps them bound.
Gas molecules move freely,
they are not bound at all.
Escaped from a solid mass,
the space around them is not so small.
Heat vibrates molecules breaking down the force.
So solid melts to liquid
more movement being the cause.
As the liquid boils the molecules liven up.
Their energy increases
to the point where gas erupts.
The reverse can happen too
when air cools the gas right through.
Condensation is the term,
from gas to liquid, hot to cool.
