Scared of the Dark
She was scared of the monster.
Terrifying and menacing,
lurking in the shadows,
waiting for darkness,
beast on the prowl.
She hid under the covers.
If she couldn't see it,
it couldn't see her.
She could hear it's breathing,
could smell its' breath.
Could feel its' presence
all around her.
Intoxicating evil.
No time to run,
no voice to scream.
She waits in silence,
holding her breath,
scrunching eyes tight shut,
shrinking herself
trying to disappear.
The door creaks,
floorboards squeak.
Bedcovers tugged
and pulled to one side.
The world around darkens.
Mattress springs compress,
closer and closer,
hairy arms grip her
and pull her and twist her.
She cries for the light.
