The Long Distance Driver
In the early hours of the morning I hear birds singing their
songs
But I must hurry now to wash and shave for I should have been long
gone.
My trusty vehicle waits, all smart, shining and ready to go.
We have a long haul awaiting us and we must not go too
slow.
Re checking my load to ensure it has been tightly
secured.
I have heard many tales from drivers of the crises they have
endured.
The engine is warming and the tension is building as I engage first
gear.
We are moving toward our destination at last, so there is not so much
to fear.
When you are young and raring to go for the adventure that's
ahead
Enjoying every moment for there are new places to see and tread.
Each day brings it's own rewards for there are none that are the
same.
Sometimes it is bright and sunny and sometimes it pours with
rain.
Passing through town onto the motorway other lorries pass
abeam.
They are doing haulage as I am, we all work as a team.
Scenery passes and the time has flown we must stop for a break
So I pull into my regular cafe its where I usually meet my
mates.
Tummy full and making good time, hoping our luck will
last.
Finally we reach journeys end, glad we've finished our task
Our goods unloaded, canvas and ropes stacked for another day,
We are homeward bound and have really earned our pay.
