Memories
Before a cosy fire, my wife and I now sit, and reminisce,
Reflecting on Christmases, the children came to give that kiss,
Tired with anticipation, made them go earlier to their room,
Our duty was to fulfil, and make their dreams to bloom.
Quietly and alert, we did ascend those stairs at 12 o' clock.
Thinking of things asked for, and hoping we had not forgot,
To rooms where children sleep, had gone to bed with desires,
With dreams prayed for days before, hoping they transpire.
Early awake on Christmas morn, children with their gifts,
Playing with presents, also wrappings that will not be missed,
Their faces are beaming, and their hearts filled with joy,
Received from Santa Claus, that dreamed of wanted toy.
My wife made those days to remember with a yearly spread,
The table before us, was ready with her cooking to be had,
We all sat, and consumed her lovingly prepared collation,
Recall the happiness of those days, and through the duration.
Time has passed, with affection we hold these memories dear,
Our family has grown with grandchildren, but live not near,
We indulge in our companionship, hold hands and kiss,
Those days have passed, as have our lives and are truly missed.
