Welcome to heaven
Pain ached through Selbie’s body, so strong she was numb. As she stirred the memories came flooding back in blinding flashes. She jerked up, her eyes fluttering open. Was she dead? Was this heaven? No the stabbing pain in her arm told her that, letting out a loud moan Selbie flopped back down onto the pillow. Pillow? The sound of a door opening and then a voice shouting. Someone stroked Selbie’s head and began to sob. "Mum?" Selbie whispered trying to see through the blinding light.
"Oh thank god Chibi-chan!" came a relieved voice. Sakura’s voice. Selbie was lying in Sakura’s bed her arm bandaged and her cuts cleaned. "What happened?" whispered Selbie still stunned,
"You fell. Georgia pushed you, if Vince hadn’t dived into save you I don’t know what would of happened". Selbie desperately tried to take it all in, "Vince?"
"Yes Vince, he was out looking for you with us and heard screaming, he knew it was you and ran to find you" Sakura suddenly burst into tears, "Chibi-chan I’m so sorry! You could have died!"
Selbie had survived. Come back from the dead. Half an hour later and she still couldn’t believe she was sitting in Sakura’s room chatting about their families. Sakuras’ father was a manga artist and still lived in Japan, Sakura had a copy of everything he had ever worked on. Then it hit Selbie, what would her mother and father say about her arm. And where was Olly and the rest. Seeing her face Sakura smiled. "They’re outside in the living room with Mama, they told me not to let you see them in a state"
"State?"
"They were crying. All of them, even Rabbit!". For some reason Selbie felt incredibly happy hearing this, it made her insides feel warm. She smiled at Sakura and wrapped her good arm around her. "I love you Sakura, you know that don’t you?" Selbie said. Sakura nodded and hugged her back.
When Selbie entered Sakura’s living room she was greeted by a strange sight. The boys who had seemed so strong and sophisticated were surrounded by tissues and empty cups of tea. All with red eyes and all slightly tear stained. For a few moments they all stared at each other, then they laughed. They laughed until the tears flowed and no eye in the house was dry. Katy flung her arms around Selbie and Vixen followed - both seemed to of appeared out of nowhere . More tears. Vince jumped up and began to kiss Selbie all over her hair, still slightly damp from the river water. Then Rabbit lifted her up and hugged her until she was sure she would die. But something was not right.
Olly Glenpatrick had never cried so much in his life. He could barely see through bloodshot eyes and his chest ached so much from the pain of a broken heart. No amount of consolation from Mrs Kamijou could comfort him. He had cried until his tear ducts dried up. But now standing before him bruised and battered yet alive was Selbie. Darling Selbie, the who girl he loved so deeply it hurt. The girl who in a matter of weeks had swept him off his feet and driven him crazy. A girl whose life he had traumatised. It broke his heart and it was unbearable.
Selbie just stared at him all the things Georgia had said ringing in her head. All around the room everyone watched, waiting to see what happened next. Selbie, eyes hidden by her long fringe stepped forwards until she was right in front of him. With her good arm she slapped him, hard. The sound reverberated around the room and masked the sound of the last of Olly’s heart cracking.
The sound of the front door slamming echoed through the house. Rabbit and Vince made a move to follow her but Katy shook her head. "Don’t worry Olly. She just needs time to breathe" she comforted, rubbing his shoulders. Olly shook his head, allowing the tears fall. It was over and he knew it. Vixen Montserrat pulled her baby brother into her arms and held him close. No one could do anything but watch while Olly’s entire body shook from his sobs.
Can you forgive him
Selbie couldn’t forgive him. He had pushed his way into her heart only to break it with his past. But Olly wouldn’t give up. Everyday he waited outside the school in his car, and every day he waited outside the library on the wall. It was beginning to annoy her, couldn’t he just take a hint? Even now sitting in her pyjamas in the living room Selbie could see him sitting outside on a bench just across the road from her house. She glared at him, but he didn’t see. "How’s your arm, baby?" asked Ellen Robinson poking her head around the door. Ellen was under the impression Selbie had fallen off a wall, while on a night out with Freddie. It was a pathetic lie, but Ellen seemed to believe it.
"It’s fine Mum. Really! Just go out, or you’ll be late" Selbie said. Ellen bit her lip and looked concerned, "Go!" commanded Selbie in a bad Hitler impression. Ellen laughed, "I wont be back until late honey, so don’t wait up okay!". Selbie sighed as her mum slammed out of the house. It was going to be a long night.
The rain started around ten o’clock. Fat raindrops smacked against the windows and bounced of the road outside. But Olly still stayed put, his eyes fixed on Selbie’s bedroom window. From behind the curtain she watched him, the stupid moron would catch a cold if he stayed out there much longer! He would probably leave soon anyway, what with the London Sound festival coming up in two days; he couldn’t take chances. But Selbie was wrong. It was midnight when she looked up from her homework to see him still out there, slumped lifelessly on the bench. Panic rushed through Selbie’s system, she had to get him out the rain! Grabbing her dressing gown and an umbrella she stumbled through her front door and across the street.
Olly was sodden, and freezing. Leaning over him Selbie checked his temperature with her hand; he was ice cold. She gasped and tried to wake him up. But he would only open one eye delirious from the coldness that was obviously raging through him. Gathering all her strength Selbie struggled, but managed to shakily pull him up; propped him up with her - surprisingly strong- good arm. Olly was still oblivious as she dragged him - half conscious - across the street and into her house.
He was lying on her bed, his damp hair soaking into her pillow. She had stripped him down to his underwear and put one of her dad’s t-shirts on him. He was away all the time anyway and wouldn’t mind. Selbie had even managed to get him to drink some piping hot coffee. But now Olly was asleep, his face a mask a peace and fists held loosely by his sides. From her position in her desk chair Selbie sighed. She was still in love with him, that much she knew. But what would happen next? Could she really forgive him? Sighing again she smiled sadly to herself, then she noticed Olly’s mouth. Just in the corner of was a small cloud of froth from the coffee. Climbing onto the bed she examined it closer. It was definetly coffee froth. Leaning in even closer still Selbie wondered whether she should wipe it off.
Selbie seemed to lose all control of herself and blushed violently as she licked the foam from Olly’s lips. Strong arms caught her as she tried to pull away. Warm lips kissed hers in a tight embrace. Giving in, Selbie flopped down beside him breathing heavily. Eyes still shut he whispered softly in her ear, "Am I forgiven then?". Selbie just buried her head in his shoulder, she was tired and just wanted to sleep. "Maybe" she whispered back. Although she couldn’t see his face, Selbie knew he was smiling. She felt herself pulled closer into his arms until her forehead was pressed hard against his collarbone. The warmth and happiness were too much to bare. Selbie fell asleep.
This melody
When she woke he was gone. Just a crumpled up note left on her desk. Sleepily picking it up something papery fluttered to the floor. A ticket. To the London Sound concert. Suddenly wide awake Selbie wondered if MoonUnit had won. Reading the note her face fell.
Selbie,
Sorry, but I had an early practise today, that’s why I left. Anyway that ticket is for the festival tomorrow. Unfortunately we didn’t win, Alexi Fabbercino did! Damn him! So I guess we’re only going to be the second act. But Selbie just promise me you’ll come! Its my apology.
Olly
Shaking her head Selbie sighed. Of course she would come. Nothing on God’s earth would stop her!
"So you really are back together then?" said Freddie shoving the last of his burger into his mouth. They were sitting in some cheap café near the club district. It was strange in the evening light, like a fairground just opened but with no visitors. "I hope so" murmured Selbie sipping her tea. Freddie smiled, giving Selbie’s cheek a gentle punch, "I’m glad. I missed your smile". Selbie grinned back, she had missed it too. After paying the cashier they had stepped out into the cold street, the last of the light was dying and the strange people were beginning to appear. Walking hand in hand through the screaming crowds of people outside the London Sound stadium they made their way in.
It was chaos inside. Thousands of voices, shoutsd and screams mixing together to create a deafening roar. Sliding into her plastic seat Selbie looked around, above her in the wings reserved for v.i.ps she saw them. Vixen, Katy, Victor Marvel and Danaë. Katy waved and Vixen blew her a kiss. Grinning, Selbie waved crazily back. These were her friends, she had never had so many before in her life. It felt fantastic. Her insides warm and gooey Selbie joined in with the thousands of screaming people as the curtain went up.
It was an awesome concert. Alexi Fabbercino really was an excellent singer, and the girl band WeNcH put on a fantastic show. But when MoonUnit came on the crowd went completely wild. Waving his arms in the air Olly shouted over the din into the microphone. "Tonight we’re starting with an apology!" as soon as he said it a strage hush broke out, "this isn’t my song" He glanced over at Rabbit, who sat emotionless behind his drum kit, "But it reminds me of someone I love". More silence, then Olly began to play. His fingers dancing over the piano keys making beautiful chords as they went. Both Vince and Rabbit began to play, slowly building up to a beautiful introduction. The crowd were crazy with delight, but slience fell as the whole stadium went completely still. Sakura’s beautiful voice began to sing the lyrics.
The song made Selbie - and nearly everyone in the audience - gasp quietly. Shortened yet beautiful. She had heard the song before, but never had it made her cry so much. Yet Selbie was not the only one. All around the stadium, lighters were being held in the air and eyes were shiny with tears.
The applause when MoonUnit finished was hysterical!
