A true
story
Dear
World,
I have a question to ask
you, but before I ask you it, you need to know about me. You need to
know about my friends.
I am pretty
average, except I suppose for my brains, always had a good head on my
shoulders, so I've always been in the honors and AP classes. I can make
people laugh and I seem to have a good time pretty much anywhere. I am
very cynical and I get annoyed by people easily, simply because they
rarely seem to take time to care about anyone but themselves. I have
scars on my wrist from when I carved into it with an old screw. I'm
just your average teenage girl.
My
boyfriend doesn't do all that well in school but he's smart. He spent a
year doing pot and liqueur after his old girlfriend left him. His
mother and her boyfriend hit him around sometimes whenever they don't
feel like accepting who he is. He's only 16 and they want to kick him
out on his own. His father is a drunk who smokes all the time. He is
abused by his wife but he doesn't care he lost the love of his life,
the same women that treats her son like scum because she doesn't bother
taking the time to know him. A typical American family.

My
ex-boyfriend started smoking pot with his father; they often went out
together smoking. He had enough sense to stop but his father would
still come home drunk and doped up. He wasn't all too bright but he was
great with computers. He was quite arrogant, demanding the attention
from his friends that his family didn't bother to show them.

A friend of
mine was taken to court by his parents because he refused to fight back
when his mother hit him. He was found guilty of battery against his
parents.
A genius I know
watched his mother die from cancer; he doesn't like to get close to
people anymore. His father wants to divorce his step-mom. He's smarter
than the rest of us, growing up reading science books, instead of
playing those strange street yard games like the rest of us. I never
quite know if I know him or the fa?ade he wants people to think is him.
He still hasn't come to terms with his mother's death.

My best
friend has the closest thing I know to a truly normal life. Her little
sister is in a wheelchair, a birth defect, but that doesn't stop her
from having fun. We joke a lot but I can't really confide in her, she's
not an emotional person, and therefore not much help, she doesn't
confide in me either.
A know
a little girl that was beaten to death by her father?she was six years
old.
I have
don't have that many friends world. I try and make friends with
everyone, these are the ones that confide in me to where I know their
stories. So world if this is typical, if everyone has lives like this,
is this what is meant by happiness? Is it truly this fleeting? But if
this isn't typical, if this all stuff that shouldn't be happening, why
aren't you here World? Why aren't you here to take notice and put a
stop to it? I don't want this to be typical.
I want to work to
make sure people don't have to grow up like this. Will you World?
