Living the lie

And so she lived a lie,
She had a choice - to laugh or to cry
Outwardly she laughed whilst inside
She cried
She portrayed an image,
Respectful, resourceful, reliable,
Whilst inside the irony ached and
She cried
They thought they knew her,
Yet she didn't know herself,
How could she when the goals constantly changed?
She cried
How could they not see the tears
Which coursed down her face?
But they poured not from her eyes but her soul when
She cried
To see her they had to look deeper,
Beyond the protective wall and facade,
For if they looked further they would see that
She cried
And so she lived a lie,
No! They lived a lie
For it was them who refused to see that
She cried
