Questions
I have watched and rewatched all day
The dreadful images of your chosen end,
The fireball of your self-immolation,
And I am no closer to comprehension:
And I would ask, if your scattered atoms
Could be collected, reassembled, reawoken,
To help me understand you, to help me deal
With our shared humanity:
Was your hatred so utterly profound?
Was your despair so unrelenting?
Your faith so sublime, the promises
Of eternal bliss so compelling?
And as the tower grew on the horizon,
Did you think of anything I might think of,
anything human to connect us? Were you
Thinking of your past, or of your future?
