They asked me would i like to talk to the young woman.
"She`s collecting stories about when you were young"
"I don`t mind" I said.
I like to do something different.Days here are all the same.
Bonny lass she was. She had one of those recording things. I forget
names you know.
"It doesn`t matter" she said. "can you remember your wedding
day?"
I remember the frock and how sunny the morning was. We walked to
church, two miles or more.
"Do you take this man" the vicar said.
And I did because we`d courted for so long and it was time I
married.
After that we had a breakfast me mother made and the men had a drink
even though it was so early.
Then me and Tom walked down to the station and he took me to Sheffield
on a train.
I`d never been to a city.
He bought me some pearls in a shop, nearly real they were.
And we went to this big cafe and they had uniforms and silver
pots.
And we went to a Music Hall and he held me hand.
We caught a late train back and by then I loved him.
We`d rented this little house, the same one he died in.
Me mother had been down and lit a nice fire and we sat in front of
it.
And then he kissed me and then.....but that`s for me to remember and
nobody else.
