Empire

You built yourself a vast empire
That was brought down by vicious lies
I joined in during its reconstruction
Become the architect in its foundation.

We were happy in our new empire
Surviving cataclysmic fires
But when I want a peace armistice
You inflamed me with the fruit we harvested.

We distracted ourselves with mindless lust
But we could never repair all the rust
You hold on to us in your desperation
And I run away from our dominion

When I learn to be at peace
You bring him in to be your new centerpiece
Demand submission from the surrounding kingdom
Defile their songs with your venom

Was it him? Was it me?
Was it because of your misery?
Or have you always been this power hungry?
But when you issue your new decree
A new realization hit me:

I'm the love of your life
He's the love of your empire
Take over black lands, their cultures colonized
While on their women you sic your followers
He pretends to not have jungle fevers.

As I ponder at your world domination
I look back at the rubble of our dominion
Pick up our once cherished mementos
And make them a part of a new manifesto.
