What child is this to cause such strife
a king would kill with bloody knife...
a babe in arms, who at one’s breast,
is small, and helpless – heaven blessed?.
 
What child is this who, sleeping, lies? 
None other than of womankind, 
that soldiers make mark out, in blood
on homesteads – Here, a newborn son.
 
What child is this, dear Lord above?
Not King of Kings, but King of Love,
and if this be true, to you I pray...
please stay the hands of those who slay.
 
What child is this that wise men sought,
and to his manger presents brought?
And why, dear God, should my child die;
born a boy, his only crime?

Hiya Tina.

With that title, you brought home the desperately protective feelings a mother has for her new child, in this case under threat of murder for being born a boy. Your words made it heartbreakingly real for me. There's so much love in the writing.

Yes, you certainly bring out a mother's love. But you also seem to be raising the bigger ‘Why?’ here aren’t you, Tina, of why many things seem too bitter, why aren’t they stopped.  So many things that can puzzle, or make angry, though also many things that are wonderful, and many evils are cutailed (unknown to us maybe, we see the back of the tapestry) and he does hear every true cry, help, and will bring justice and achieve much good before he removes all evil, and we will be astonished, and worship his supernatural, kind wisdom.
