MY FRIEND THE SEA.

I've always loved the seaside,
The salt of the sea in my hair,
The sunkissed beaches in summer,
The winter deserted and bare.
As a child I've passed many a day,
Collecting shells washed up on the shore,
Life was so easy and free,
No child could ask for much more.
As darkeness casts over the sea,
My fear of such eeriness grew,
No more was it friendly and safe,
No more the great friend I knew.
Did all those lives end in thee?
Did you swallow and squeeze every breath?
Does death keep you roaming so free?
Did their cries land on ears so deaf?
Children frollick and paddle your edge,
Bringing laughter and fun to your side,
They know nothing of drowning and death,
None of those secrets you hide.
Yet in your dark and deep side,
Life breeds with beauty and flare,
With your plants and vivid sea life,
You nurture and tend to with care.
Your two faces I've met in my time,
Yet neither I know all that well,
Maybe one day you'll snatch my life too,
Then all your deep secrets you'll tell.
