Personal Remarks
My stare was fixed unwaveringly upon Mrs. Mitchelmore's eyebrows
While she and my mother were chatting.
Mine were well-formed, shapely, dark;
Hers were mousy, whispy, hardly existing.
I was about to make a comment:
"Mrs. Mitchelmore, your eyebrows are very faint."
But fortunately they continued talking
(You mustn't interrupt dear!")
"Don't make personal remarks, Angela!" my mother would say
On my bringing the attention of a friend to something about their
person.
It wasn't meant unkindly.
Just a certain fascination.
Why should I be so considerate?
They didn't hesitate in making personal remarks about me!
"Ooooooo, aren't your arms skinny!"
Causing me to keep them covered up under a cardigan.
..............................................maybe my mother was
right!
