Ice in the Heart

Storm imminent beyond the bogged brow
Nicely penetrates a clear conscience
Furrows skin like the worm of memory
You slept under my table
Scrumpled blanket heavy, undulating
You slept amid crumbs and woodlice
Hail crash obliterates barren hillside
One creature waits for hypothermia
Frozen from inside, weather-battered
How I loved your earthy scent, your breath
Your human hairs and your prehensile toes
How I ached to lie down under you
Wind thrashes dune-grass, makes it fall
Lumps on the side of sand mounds
Later dried in sunshine, shrunk to nodules
Looks like my wasted heart
