On March 19th ,1984 my daughter was born.
A tiny little person arriving four months early.
But before I go into more details about her birth, let me explain to
you how i arrived to the hospital.
I am a counselor who's shift starts at midnight.
I usually leave for work at 10:00 p.m. In order to relax before work
with a cup of coffee. This particular night, my mother had asked me
where did i think i was going? I thought that she had losted her mind
because she knew that i was on my way to work.
After eating such a large dinner a couple of hours before i was to
leave, my mother thought that i better be on my way to the hospital. I
did not see the need to go to the hospital. I did not feel any
different or in pain for that matter! The next thing i knew was she had
called a neighbor from across the street to drive us to the hospital.
This man was not a policeman but all the same he had a red flashing
light and was going through all the lights on the way to the
hospital.
Arriving to the hospital, my mother informed the nurse who took me into
the room. As she checked me, she screamed, my mother ran out of the
place because my child's head was crowning already. After three pushes
my daughter was born.
In my room at the hospital the doctors or nurses would not give me any
information about my child. I knew that I had a girl, that's all!
Finally on the thrid day of my stay the doctors informed me that my
child was alive and that she weighed in at one pound and nine ounces
and that she was born four months early.
As I rode the elavator down to the nursey. it did not occur to me that
this was not the usual nursey for new borns, but for premies.
I saw all these machines and heard all this noise and still i could not
figure out what was going on. When they brought me to my child, I
started to cry because i never seen anyone so tiny. My child was no
bigger than a box of tissue( that's the only way i could explain)
She had scott tape holding tubes in her nose and arms. She was crying,
but no tears could not be seen. She was in this bubble, blowing warm
air into her lungs. I thought that i was being punished for being a
mother without an husband.
