If the text is original, the art of translation requires
little as the origin to imagination. If the translation requires an
imaginative insertion, an enigmatic quip, a riddling orifice called
Eros, the art of imagination becomes so original that even the real
author will be surprised! When Borges was translating the original
Homer into Spanish, he found himself contending the poetic. Literary
and literally the poet and blindness complemented each other as an
ailment as well as the poem.
