This is anywhere

Down on the street the shining faces radiate pretentious feelings of happiness.
The cars hum contentedly after a Sunday morning once-over.
Shop keepers peer over their papers at the sound of an opening door,
Another sale - steak tonight,
Family men and weekend dads sit in Macdonald's with their kids,
No more than twenty minutes - places to go, people to see,
Some youths play football in a car park,
"No ball games",
Scatter like rodents at the sight of a bobby,
As a plane flies overhead, businessmen hide behind the sheen of a suit and tie.
This is anywhere, this is gray,
This is a place where we die and no one even notices.
