Victory

The insect whine of scattered thoughts,
A denial which resided, only to shatter like china dropped on
marble,
Voices are distant and jaded by the shadows in his mind.
The bars of the cage become closer and the lights go up,
He squirms like a lab rat,
Scrutinised by a world which neither respects nor understands it.
As nervous temples pulse, he desperately tries to sustain
consciousness,
His entire existence shrinks to the confines of this moment,
A moment which can make or break the young man's life with stark
severity.
All of the eyes which once smiled turn menacing,
Foreseen are the boos and jeers,
A sharp intake of air enters tight lungs.
The light at the end of the tunnel is sighted, aimed
at, HIT.
As darkness dissipates, the wave of pressure shifts to elation.
The heart takes control.
