The Wheels Beneath My Feet

The wheels beneath my feet rumble relentlessly on
In an endless quest to reach their final destination
Hazy morning sunshine filters through the smog of another dawning day
Perchance to see if peace and tranquility will hold sway
Where daffodils are dying as tulips spring forth in proliferation
And cherry blossom blossoms om in such sweet profusion
Plastic flowers by the roadside mark the spot where another son falls
As our children are indelibly etching their tags on bridges and walls
Shoppers scurry like ants foraging for food to take to their nests
Gentlemen of the road scavenge the gutters and bins for what's left
Blank expressions glide past with rarely a smile or a word
Except for the children wrapped up in their own fantasy world
Staggering fools fumble for change drowning their fears
While babies cry for love in their chariots of tears
Only to be hushed by some plastic protrusion
Whilst the worldly wise seek some sense amidst the confusion
And the wheels beneath my feet rumble relentlessly on
Completing their quest having reached their destination
