The Help: Essay
The Help has many beautiful meanings all packed into two little words. The Help not only refers to the black maids that care for the white ladies children and clean their homes, but also a much bigger significance. The book that Skeeter, Aibileen, Minny, and the other 11 maids write is also called the Help. Both interpretations of the titles add into a much bigger one that isn’t seen by the average reader. The title is a cry for help. These maids are treated very poorly and often witness child abuse, neglect, and physical/verbal abuse.
Kathryn Stockett was trying to show how the bigotry actions of white people affect african americans. This novel reminds us that however much racism has improved we are far from being rid of it. We will probably never be able to eradicate intolerance for other races, but Kathryn Stockett shows that it doesn’t matter how you are brought up because you make your own decisions and can always change. She shows this with Skeeter, one of the main characters.
Your dream will continue to be a dream until you take action. Once you take the action and start working to make your dream come true it will start to flood into your reality. When you are succeeding in your goals life will become more enjoyable. You must be willing to pay the price, whether it’s while you're working towards your dream or when you complete your goals. There will always be a price for your accomplishments and you must be willing to pay it. Skeeter payed the price for writing her book by losing all her friends and her boyfriend. When you realize how high the price might be you might lose hope that you will succeed, but Skeeter kept on going and when she achieved her goal she thought it was all worth it.
I think brave would fit into a category of words to describe the help. Not so much the book, but more so the characters in it. Skeeter is brave for writing the book, knowing she might lose people over it. Minny and the other 12 maids are brave because they might end up getting killed for telling the stories of the white women. It is heartbreaking to see how the colored people are treated. Of course we all know they were treated very badly, but to read about it in their perspective gives more than I have learned in all my years. This novel is captivating. There is so many things to be taken away from this book. The lessons and meanings take up many of your thoughts as you read.
