Behind the Mask
Shall I sit here for a while she said
to the man behind the mask,
drink in all that I survey
and all that has surpassed.
Stay a moment or a year,
a decade, you may choose,
sit and wonder about your life
that you've written in your muse.
Who are you may I beg to ask?
Pray tell me how you know
of whence I came and of my life,
what do you bestow?
You gave too much, one piece by piece,
asking nothing in return,
your heart is shattered in many shards
for this I have concern.
I feel I know you from within
for more than just today,
your mask I feel hides so much pain
for what do you portray?
I am your past, your present now
and your future guiding light,
inside me is each piece of you
each word you always write.
Am I right to think this way,
one soul we share for now,
you have fed upon my words
reading all of me somehow.
I am you, as you are me,
forever unforetold,
I came to tell you seek yourself
take off the dark blindfold.
To find myself I must release
the chains that bind my soul.
Break free to dance upon the morn
make myself fulfilled and whole.
I release your past this day,
your present is etched in sand,
control your future, your own way
go seek your promised land.
