This phase line we built and named after the daughter of our captain
oh
captain ran west out of the Triangle of Death and south from Baghdad
wish I had chosen phase line Danielle name for the daughter of our
1st el tee
but in war who can tell or even 2nd guess yes guess I did my best
and we bested along Amanda all along until the improvised blast
that wasn’t
alas
so improvised but actualized hot and sudden and brunt and abrupt
and true
Amanda, darling girl, is where I got phased out of a certain line of
life
Blink
an eruption of force and heat that you don’t understand comprehend
and the end is unremembered
You just wake up to the present and to the future surrounded by nurses
whose eyes leave unsaid what you understand instead - - - -
It’s like someone took a 2 x 4 and smacked you in the back of the head
Again
Again
and again and again and again and again and again again again again
again again again again
comprehend
again again again again again again again again again again again again
The burning and the blast and the heat and the smack and all the fuck all
where with all
We just came to deliver soccer balls

Phase line
What's a phase line JJ ?
I really like the way the form reflects the content - bitty/staccato/interrupted.
Sorry you were injured, especially as a result of trying to do something for the local kids. I'm glad you recovered, physically anyway.
My previous next door neighbour was with the Marines. He trained down in Hereford with the SAS, so he was SAS badged as well. I know he was in Iraq, Sierra Leone, all sorts of 90's hotspots, and I know mentally/emotionally it's still with him.

Thanks JJ
At least you can be bored in the warm weather (68 F I think you said). It's 44 F here. And raining.

I ought to ask this. I
I ought to ask this. I really should have done it before. Are you OK with me calling you JJ, or would you prefer Jack / TJ ?
I've got a habit of giving people I like nicknames, and then it doesn't occur to me for a long time that maybe they don't like it but they're too polite to say.
