AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA111111TAXIS
It's raining, cold threads of water wind themselves around my dripping
limbs, I stagger sideways to the side of the road, and raise my arm in
the face of a flood of roaring vehicles.
A car pulls in immediately. I jump in the back and settle into the
most inviting seats imaginable. Outside the night rages on, tossing
chip wrappers into the sky like frightened bats. There's music playing;
it's my favourite band and this is my favourite song. Traffic light
gems of rain spin merrily away from the windscreen wipers. I tell the
driver where I'm going. She says she's going that way anyway so the
ride will be free. We swing left to hurtle down a side street but I'm
not even rocked in my seat. The car smells of perfume and dancing the
night away and my feet feel warm again - that's all that really matters
at the moment. I sigh and look to see where we are. The side street has
cut our journey in two. I make a mental note to use it next time I'm
out and about.
By the side of the road, we see someone I've always wanted to ask out
but never known how. I ask the cab to stop. We stop and let my friend
jump in. They say they've always wanted to ask me out but never know
how. They ask if they can stay over at my flat. I smile because we're
nearly there. My friend moves closer. I move a taxi card lying on the
seat so that my friend can move closer still. I slip the card in my
pocket just in case, well you never know when you might need a cab
these days. We arrive home. Nothing bad happens because nothing bad has
ever happened in this cab. I say goodnight to the taxi driver. They
say, 'Enjoy your trip'.
