Lucky Stars

L is for Lucky Stars
Billions and zillions of lucky stars surround me; different and better
ones materialising each time I close my eyes. At moments like this,
when I'm lonely or I'm bored, I simply pluck down the nearest one to
keep me warm. Then, sometime later in the day, all my problems topple
and melt before me like butter skyscrapers. This is the best time, the
very moment, when you can join me in laughter and watch as the universe
quakes beneath my glare. But for now, let me introduce you to some of
the stars that I've met this last couple of days.
'I am the red star that stalks through the night, picking up bad
people and setting them alight.'
'I am the green star so keep close to me and you'll be luckier on this
dull little planet than most.'
'I am a shooting star and I'm just passing through, so hop on my tail
and we'll go somewhere cool.'
Sshh! There's something happening over there?
Stay here a moment and you'll see two stars colliding. Slowly and
silently, inch by insignificant inch across the endless, immense galaxy
their glittering paths will come to cross and then BOOM KAZZABOOM WIZZ
PPZZIP KAZZAPOW ZIMZAMKAZAZZAMM!! Then things will change a little bit
around this gloomy little universe.
Captain James Eishauer rolled uncomfortably onto his left side to view
the galaxy around him through the window of the spaceship. Somewhere in
the distance a strange but dazzling light set the blackness on
fire.
It seemed like nothing changed. The planets went round the sun, the sun
went round the other suns and they all seemed to go round something
too. Then an explosion changed the way things went.
She would have missed the root poking from the ground like a broken
tooth, if a flicker of light hadn't brushed the night sky silver.
So that's that, let's meet my star now.
There's no noise, there's no scent, no touch, no feeling, no contact or
emotion; only the light that runs away from me; always faster, always
reaching out until that moment when you raise your face to the sky and
can almost touch.
I have my star, you have yours and if we get bored then there's plenty
more.
'Anything special happened today Mr Star?'
'She threw a stick into the air but it wasn't nearly high enough and
fell down to earth without touching me. It's just another thing that I
noticed.'
'What else did you notice?'
'Just that if I stick my tongue out; I can touch the sun and count each
individual second that my saliva sizzles for. I am the star. You are
the sun.'
'What if you weren't really a star?'
'Good question if I wasn't a star then I'd be an octopus because they
look a bit like stars don't they!'
