The Samaritan Woman
A response to the Gospel of John, Chapter 4, verses 1 to 42
He thought he was God's gift to women.
I thought -
They're not so picky when they're thirsty.
He said he had water that was better than mine.
I thought -
It's no good having better water if you've got no bucket.
We wrangled. I think he realised it wasn't going well.
Then
he spoke my life - things he couldn't have known.
A charlatan's guess or a prophet's insight?
I thought -
Let's see how he deals with a prophet's question.
.
He thought he was the answer to our creeping hatred.
I thought -
Maybe you are, but you can still get your own water.
He thought I would fall at his feet, infatuated.
I thought -
I'm no easy lay. It's harder than that, to earn my love.
He thought he was God's gift to us all.
My friends and family thought he was.
I thought -
Perhaps.
