Dreams of a Secluded Illusion By Trevor Jensen
You open your eyes and stare in awe at an endless sky
Of communicating stars that answer back with a twinkling reply.
Never before have you seen so many countless stars
Brighten your night of a translucent flight.
You look around and find yourself on a secluded white sandy beach
With long arching palm trees swaying gently in the evening's heat.
But is this seclusion an illusion that's just your mind's way of a treat
Or is it an illusion of reality your mind wants to reach?
You stretch your body so wonderfully and neat
With the joyness the ocean brings as water jump between your feet.
Never before have you felt this white cool sand penetrate your body so deep
Comfortably surrounding you so gently you could fall back asleep.
But is it a meditation of the mind's realization
Or is this penetration a long awaited sensation?
You finally get up and walk towards a tree
And wildly shaking the base as coconuts drop in threes.
Never before have you seen something so fresh
Drop to your feet that looks so tasty to eat
You split the fruit so carefully and neat
With the pleasures of a coconut tasting so fantastically sweet
But is the meat of the coconut really that sweet
Or could it be you mind's way of defeat losing the city weep?
You look out into the vastness of the ocean's horizon
Suddenly finding yourself crying on such a peaceful island
Never before have you seen such a clearer reflection
A reflection of you from the island's perception
But are you really looking at your own reflection
Or is this island a perception or what you could lose from a deadly infection.
How could you lose an island from infection
What kind of infection does the author intend to mention?
The kind of infection this author intends to mention
Is the infection you give to yourself when you live in the cities of detention
All of the things I decided to mention
Are things you and I like to put in detention
How long has it been since you stopped and enjoyed a treat
How long has it been since you've taken the time to get away from city streets
You live in a society that insists in constantly developing things
And not having time to enjoy what nature brings
As a little kid you live on such a beautiful island
An island that brings you security, and where you are not always in a hurry
You taste such sweet things and enjoy the comfort of heat
You play in the sand and let it run between you feet
You stop what you are doing and eat a very grand treat
A treat that brings you happiness, a treat that tastes so sweet
But as you start to grow older and older
The sweetness of the treat turns as bitter as coffee
You soon forget how nice certain things taste
And you always seem to be in a hurry and constantly make haste
Very soon at such a young age, your island of imagination and appreciation
Quickly dissipate and you begin the race without a trace
The island of security you used to have with glee
Begins to sink under the unknowing relentless sea
While you start to sink into the fears of the sea
The disease takes over as money numbs your mind with greed
The author of this poem tells you to open your eyes and see
Being in a hurry and making money, can all of it buy safety and dreams
If you don't slow down and appreciate what nature brings
All of those memories of enjoyment will be lost in the open sea.
