Have you ever tried to get a doodle bug to come out of his
house with a thin stick? The only way they will come out is if you say
the magic word, and each doodle bug has his own magic word. Talk about
ignorant my sister, and me believed this crap we would squat down, put
the stick in the hole and spew words, one after the other hoping one,
would catch hold of that stick so we could pull it up and find out what
a doodle bug looked like. They are funny little things who live in the
sand, in cone like tunnels, they go down butt first i'm told and wait
for something to fall in so they can eat it.
Stink
bugs, or punkin bugs as we call them are another thing altogether,
avoid these bugs they didn't get that name by accident. Pinchin bugs
are scary and they will pinch you if you pick them up the wrong way,
they are dark brown or black, if you press down on their heads they
make a popin sound. June bugs make great model planes if you can pull
one of them off the screen door, you tie a piece of thread on their leg
and throw them up in the air, they make a buzzing noise going around in
a circles. They are a lot slower than a real model plane, but you don't
need any batteries either.
Grass hoppers, are all
different sizes and will spit tobacco on you, in your eye if they can
well it's not tobacco it's leaves they've chewed, but they told us it
was tobacco and we believed it. Dirt dobbers are a funny type of wasp
they don't sting you and they eat spiders, their houses look like organ
pipes, they make their nests out of mud, so they will be as close to a
water source as possible, usually the barrels of rain water under the
eaves of the house will attract them.
Best bug, if I
were judging would be a lightning bug you can pinch off their tails and
make all kinds of jewlery, rings for all your fingers, or night lights
in fruit jars with holes in the lids. Worst bug is a praying mantis I
am so afraid of these bugs, if I get close to one I almost beat my self
to death trying to make sure it didn't land on my head. where ever it
lands it won't have to worry about me bothering it. no way.
