Bright sunlight stabs at my eyes like a hot knife and forces me
awake. Oh God my head is killing me. When will I ever learn. Too much
smoke, too much booze.
Strange room not mine but whose?Nothing is fimiliar here. Looking
around on the floor I don't see my clothes anywhere.
Hello, do you know what Ive done with my clothes?--no answer--
I struggled up to find the bathroom and tripped over a sleeping dog,
who growled under his breath and kept sleeping (cujo) I guessed.
Hello, I called louder holding my head to steady it, still no answer.
At least I found the bathroom on the medicine cabinet there
was a note.---BE BACK AT EIGHT MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME----LEAH
Who is Leah? if I could just find my clothes. My watch said nine am.
Oh Lord I need coffee so I can think.
In the tiny kitchen I found instant coffee and a pot to boil the water.
I put the water on and staggered back into the bedroom to try and find
my clothes.
I needed to lie down just for a second or two.
The next thing I heard were sirens screaming, a dog barking , glass
breaking and a fireman yelling is anyone in here.
Black smoke choking me, coughing, no air, I can't breathe. Feeling a
hand grab at me I held on and was pulled out of the burning building.
Anyone else in there with you they asked? just a dog I said we got your
dog out buddy.
The ambulance took me to the hospital where they decided to keep me
over nite just to be sure they said. I had to call my mother to bring
me some clothes. She was almost hysterical, thanking God that her boy
was alright. After all she said that whole building was destroyed they
still don't know how the fire started.
Oh Lord I might know , remembering the boiling pot and the curtains
just above the stove. Thank God nobody got hurt. Well if this dosen't
make me stop boozing it up I guess nothing ever will.
