The Moon Talked to Me

The moon showed her cold face that night
trembling dew on leaves looked so fragile,
like diamond tears in ice.
Sometimes a wispy cloud
hid her face
the way your eyelashes
shrouded the dark madness in your eyes.
I loved you when you promised the stars
and held out my hands to capture them;
They fell, but I closed my hands on emptiness.
Stardust is magic,
for magical times
and how quickly we lost that
when your eyes caught darkness
Oh cold and uncaring moon
undo the curse that binds him,
free the one I once knew
with his warm and gentle touch
his laughter at my stupid jokes;
Bring him back to me
to warm my nights
and be my companion in the day
Oh Moon, my life is set on hold
as I await his return!
