Sweet Sixteen

My name is Eve McDonald, and I am about to turn sixteen. I am a moderately pretty girl, but few boys like me because I am a devout Catholic and demand to be treated with respect. My best friend’s name is Adam, he’s fourteen, and sadly everyone makes fun of us by coupling us as Adam and Eve, which is hurtful to my religious background, implying that I am the sinful one. We are inseparable because we have known each other for nine years, when I stopped him from being bullied by some third grade girls.
Adam, my mother, and I have been planning my sweet sixteen for months now, but Margaret Lincoln, who hates me, planned her birthday party on the same day, which means that no one will go to mine because she is the most popular girl in the school. I have tried to take her place for many years but she made sure that I was an outcast when I accidently stole her boyfriend freshman year.
I have a brother who she has had a crush on for years now. He is 23 and is in jail for drug dealing, which doesn’t stop people from fawning over him. He is getting out next month and everyone is afraid that he’ll come and hurt him or her, so they elected me Student Council president to appease him.
I couldn’t reschedule my birthday party because all the arrangements were already made, and they are non-refundable. At least she won’t get her license when I do because she hasn’t passed the driving test. Overall though I don’t have best life but people have it so worse than I do. Sometimes I just forget that everything is not about me. Hey, I’m Catholic, not perfect. Even if no one decides to go to my party, at least I’ll have the people who really matter; my friends and family.
