Only human.

Life has many twists and turns along the rocky way
Some of them are not as pleasant as we would like them to be
While others are unexpected and bring sudden joy
Like a friend visiting from a distant land, across the wide-open
sea.

Others are funny surprises that bring a smile to an otherwise grim
expression
Like a baby talking their first steps into a world unknown
Or an creature taking its first breath of air
Or a bird spreading it's wings to fly away all on it's own

Many things can happen as the day turns around
Feelings are nurtured, angered or left behind
Homes are broken, families dispersed, wars raging into the night
Children singing, playing, fighting to get along
While dangers play from step to step
And those in fear huddle together to wait out their terrible
plight.

We cannot see all that happens
We cannot hear all who cry
We cannot live every life
We cannot mourn all who die

Only human in every sense of the word.
Some may break, some may bend
Some hold onto to the last remnant of hope
While others wait out the inevitable end

Yet for those who refuse to stay down
Those who refuse to surrender their will
Those who refuse to go quiet into the night
Those who refuse to stand still to withstand their unending
plight

Those who say "we can do it if we try"
Those who say " I won't fail. I won't break down and cry"
Those who say " It can happen if you never give up"
Those who say " It's a full glass and not a small cup"

For those few with the will to survive and the desire to see it
through,
For those few who yearn with all their hearts to make a difference, to
see something more than what's before them,
To smell the roses in the air, to see the sun in all it's golden
glow,
To live, truly live in every sense of the word and make their dreams
come true-
