Kept Me Waiting

The sidewalk was cold under my legs, and I pulled my jacket tighter
around myself. A breath of cool air swept up under my sleeves, and a
trail of goosebumps followed. I shuddered slightly, clenching my teeth
and tightening my fists against the cold. There was a dense humidity in
the air, and delicate curls began forming from my once pin straight

could swear I had never seem anything besides dust ever move on that
road. Since you'd gone, everything worth appreciating had died. My very
being, it seemed, was gone forever. I could feel the breeze brush
silently across my cheek, and I closed my eyes, wishing it were you. I
sat still, relishing the moment, then tucked my legs underneath me and
stood, taking one last look down the road.
For a fleeting second I could see your beat up Chevy rumbling down the
road...
