Do it While You Can Part 6

James pulled up in the Student lot. Today was the test he’d studied so arduously for. But as usual, Jessica was there, to rue the day.
“Hey James.” She said sarcastically. She stomped forward towards his car. “I’ve been waiting for an hour.”
“For what?”
“For you.”
“Why?”
“I bet your old hag girlfriend wouldn’t do that.”
“Jessica…”
“You wanted to talk. So talk.”
“Talk?”
“You said, it’s not what I think it is. So tell me what it really is.”
James sighed.
“Right before my test.” He muttered. “Look, she’s just some crazy old lady who’s gone through a divorce. So she misses her married life, and having a youthful partner. I’m kind of like her therapist. I have to listen to her bitching and moaning, and just deal with it for the next week. Next week, and that’s it. Come on Jessica. Do you really th-“
His phone buzzed, and then beeped. It was a text. “Just a sec-“ he said. He pulled out his phone, but even before he could do anything, Jessica snatched it out of his hand.
“What the hell?” he groaned. She activated the screen, and read aloud the text.
“Hi honey, good luck on your test today. Remember those graphs from yesterday. If not, look at this picture!” Jessica smirked jealously, and flipped the phone around. It was a picture of Brenda’s lips, covered in lipstick. There was another comment under it. “Remember, sin curves start at the zero always.” She even took the time to add a zero on the left corner of her lip.
“Jess. Come on.”
“One week, and that’s it! Then you get rid of that cougar whore!”
“Jeez Jessica.” He groaned, and walked into the building.
I passed the test, top of my class. So from then on, every week, I’d have two sessions. One with my friends at the café, and another one-on-one at home, with Brenda. The second one usually ended with her trying to kiss me, and me trying to say no. So it got to the point where I had to try something new. I could tell she wanted to get it on. There was no denying it.
“Brenda. Here’s the deal. You ready?” he asked.
“Yes.” She licked her lips.
“I’m going to have my midterm in a week or so. If you help me get an A on that exam…I’ll fuck your brains out.” James added, cupping a hand over his mouth.
“Keep me up all night.” She smiled lustfully.
“All night, and the whole next day.” He added.
Of course I never meant it. I figured I only needed her for that week. Then all I had to do, was…as much as I hated it…get a picture of myself kissing Jessica, and send it over to her. She’d break up with me, and I’d be done with her forever. As usual, I was very wrong. Looks like I forgot to read the fine print to my own contract. She wanted to join in on any social event I was going to, for the whole time.
“Oh my god, this is too fun!” she giggled, dancing. Wiggling her legs left and right. She rotated her hips, and thrust them this way and that. It was the Dance off your Pants marathon that was conducted every year. It was a way to raise funds for an outreach program to underdeveloped nations.
“Yeah, this is!” James added sarcastically.
“Where do we go after this?”
“Home??? To study…”
“Oh come on, you studied for 5 hours last night. Take it easy for a bit.”
“Movie?”
“Sure. Which one. ‘Monuments Men’?”
“No, that’s too boring. How about we rent one. All the parts of ‘The Hangover.’”
“Sure.” James said, above the boom of the music.
But we went to the movies anyway. We watched ‘Frozen.’
“I don’t like this movie.” Brenda said, noisily chewing her popcorn. “That girl can’t act for her life. I seriously want to just flatten her!” she hissed.
“It’s animated.” James suggested.
“Still, I’ve never seen animations that were so fake in my life!” Brenda yelled.
“Shut the fuck up!” a guy yelled from behind.
“You shut the hell up!” she said and tossed some popcorn in his direction. A wave of f-bombs swept over the rows behind them.
“Who the hell is that?!” one of them called.
“Just wait till after the movie.” The man behind them grumbled. “I’ll teach you a thing or two then.”
“Hey watch it dickhead!” James flared up. A flashlight shined down their row.
“Sir, I’m only going to ask you once. Please exit the theater with your…”
“Girlfriend. Thank you.” Brenda smiled pretentiously in his face. They got up and left the theater.
“Well, that went well.” James grumbled.
“That guy was just a jerk. I should have slapped him.” Brenda said.
“Yup. Take off your heels and smash him with it.”
Behind them three figures loomed. One of them walked right up to his window, and knocked.
“Hello.” He smiled. James instantly knew. It was the man from the theater. The man reached down, into his pants. It was below the windshield, so James’s view was obscured. But in the light of the streetlamp, he saw a little shimmer.
“Gun!” James yelled. He pushed start, and the car roared to life. He shifted into reverse, and screeched back, almost hitting the two other men.
“Let’s go!”
“I’m trying!” James yelled, and drove away. In the rear-view mirror he could see the men scrambling to their feet.
James kept the pedal to the metal the whole way through, and did not slow down until he reached Brenda’s house.
“That…was awesome!” Brenda yelled. “It’s been a while since I’ve had a thrill like that!”
“Are you okay?” James asked, his voice shaking.
“Yeah. You?”
James raised his eyebrows, and didn’t say anything.
“So…you going to be okay on your own?” she followed up. James simply nodded.
“Well, I’ll be on my cell if you need me baby.” She said, and ran a finger down his cheek.
Brenda made it a point to make a scene. She’d dress up like a teenage girl. To impress me. I honestly just felt sorry for her at that point. But what could I do. The one week was not up yet. And Jessica was not about to let up. One night, Brenda and I decided to stay at the cafe a little late, because I needed help on a particular concept, and then, Jessica happened.
