Modern World : Chapter 20 Part 1 (Marta and Gallanol In The Modern Age)

Image:
Calban endures life in the very dull, and very efficient world of the Martan Empire and Gallanol, in which business, work and human life have been moulded into a soulless state of perfection. But is it perfection for the bored and miserable workers who work in its dull life controlling economy?

I am glad you had a great holiday, and of course the Maltese Cross is not at all the same as the swastica, which of course became unpopular because it became the Nazi symbol. An honest mistake.

You  have reminded me of a couple of holidays...

A very fitting poem for the awful situation, which has already gone on for longer than anyone imagined, and is only getting worse and worse. How can it have come to this? And why is there no solution?!

I don't think I would be too

Posted on Tue, 24 Jun 2025

I don't think I would be too keen to go now either! All that standing up is too much! But its great to hear and see great music performed. Actually, because I had seen some reports of crowds, I was thinking it happened last weekend, but actually...

Sometimes it just seems right, and enjoyable, to have a good conversation with a stranger. It often happens when you least expect it. We realise what some of us have in common, and we can give friendship and sympathy to each other! I enjoyed...

A very sad, tragic, series of deaths. He was a great actor, and you are right that Mississippi Burning was a great film, dealing with very disturbing times. I must see that again sometime, but it is harrowing.

Posted on Fri, 08 Mar 2024

I have been in one or two pubs in York in my time, but thankfully never came upon a ghost, although there is so much history to the place that I would not be entirely surprised if I did meet one. Maybe the secret is never to be alone in York, and...

Alfred's further thoughts

Posted on Sat, 15 Feb 2025

Alfred's further thoughts about the changes afoot in the Grand Old USA,a few (long or short?) weeks ago. Certainly the world seems to have changed quite perceptibly since then, as the new President, quickly finds his feet, and has quickly started...
