Let Me Go Back

Dear diary...it's June 24th 2025.
Glastonbury festival has now
arrived, surrounded by faces
immersed in music.
I fix eyes on knowledge of
past, consuming dreamy youth,
only discovered by accident;
now I'm soaking up euphonious
Sweet Smoke – inconceivable
how I've not gleaned them until
now.
Fountain of jazzy, progressive
rock rains down. Know it
sounds crazy, but listening to
the sounds of early 70s, this
band reminds me of festival
days; when peace and love
gave us free spirits and green
leaves seem to whisper on the
breeze...
kept telling me life is like a trip
envisioned in Utopian bliss,
encouraged by mind blowing
spirit; recalling cool dreamland
days – burning incense of
fragrances like wild musk,
patchouli, sandalwood; sharing
along the way with encounters
I made...
drinking amber nectar in the
treasure of personal pleasure;
harbour of marked reflection,
let me go back to where my
awareness glows like those
psychedelic rays that shone like
the sun.
Bing Videos This band called
Sweet Smoke reminded me of
my many bands I loved during
the 1970s.
I'd never heard of them before
and found them quite by
chance on youtube...a happy
accident indeed.
Photos my own. Looking back
to 1977 while Camping.
Having fun in a park in
Glastonbury with young Lucy.

There's little that can beat the atmosphere of a good music festival. I've been to a few but never Glastonbury. I used to go to the WOMAD festival every year near Malmsbury near where you live. It was all what they call 'World Music' which I love and they had world food and world dancing there too but always local cider. WOMAD's one of the few things that I miss since emigrating.
I'm glad you found new music that reminds you of old music. It's nice to make musical discoveries. And I'm glad you're enjoying it from the comfort of your home.
Love and peace man!

I enjoyed your poem about the Glastonbury festival. Have you actually been to it this year? or have you been watching on TV or You Tube?
It reminds me of when I went in 1987, although my feelings and memories were not quite the same as yours, but I did enjoy it. I do love to hear good and varied music. If I had the time it would be good to write down my memories of that, although I probably won't get around to it.

I don't think I would be too
I don't think I would be too keen to go now either! All that standing up is too much! But its great to hear and see great music performed. Actually, because I had seen some reports of crowds, I was thinking it happened last weekend, but actually it was just starting. I bet Neil Young will be great, he deserves a large audience, a man who obviously cares, and stands up for what he believes! If only music could change the world? I am sure it must have helped so far, but the battles are never won.

How lovely to find a whole
How lovely to find a whole new band to explore! I am so glad you have something happy to light you through this time Jenny. I like the idea of music raining down very much, you soaking it up like a tree needing water

"..now I'm soaking up

Great line that one.
A dreamy reminiscense so eloquently penned. As always.
Topical with Glasto due this weekend. As much as I like the thought of festivals and everything that goes with them, I'm just happy soaking it up on the telly, loafing on the sofa with a glass of wine. I'm such a lightweight :)
