Writing on lost faces
With freedom faltering
Under the weight of blue ink
In barren places
As winter showers excite
And the froth of the afternoon
Falls to an underworld
Modernity becomes trite
As loneliness creeps
Into every crevice
The glow of technology
Causes hearts to leap
It's jumping through rings
Preserving every ounce
But never squeezing
Nor strangling the valuable things:
That rattle when one is empty
That make noise to the deaf
And paint pictures for the blind
And give the needy plenty
That shelter those without home
And clothe the naked
Give voice to the mute
And let hermits roam
That cause nomads to rest
And itinerants to stop
For travellers to stay
And are smarter than Sunday dress
The things which stop cars
And bring traffic to a halt
And cause cities to cease
And pacify brawls in bars
Things which brains don't think
And bodies can't act -
Which give lactose to those intolerant
And drive sober men to drink
Watching these things form
And fall from skies in flakes
The timeless and universal ache
Can never be the norm
For all these things are enchanted
And ooze from every pore :
A love so pure and magic
Can never be taken for granted
