Memories are made of this-what loss

It was raining hard as they ran along the close and so by the time they had arrived at school she and her brothers were dripping from head to toe.
Esthers final request, as they parted at the school gates were to stop at the school gates and wait for her so that they could walk back together to their mourning home.

Esthers desk wobbled miserably as she clutched a thick blue crayon in her inky fists; evidence of earlier English lesson! Newspaper and glue stuck to her bobbly cardigan as well as sticking to her hair; which was a little more matted than usual.

Miss Adams, her teacher, came over to her and leant over her desk.
"Your working very hard Esther. Who is this lovely picture for?
She shrugged her shoulders; clothes drying on her back.
"For nobody now Miss. I'm thinking of my daddy. You know that it is his special funeral today and mummy said she thought it was best and kinder if we all came to school!
Her teacher did not answer her
"I know what I will draw. I will draw all the flowers I saw spread out on mummy and daddies bed this morning. They were verywhere you know! Some of them my Nana had to put onto the floor. And then neighbours kept tapping our door. Do you know Miss that there were petals everywhereo On the floor in the bathroom and down the stairs and stuck in Timmys fur and mummy just couldn't stop crying.

As her teacher walked to another part of the classroom Esther rose from her chair, cut into and carved, and then opened the classroom door. At that moment she felt angry with herself for not going to the funeral andthen was sorry for being so frightened. Then as she stood staring out of the windwow she noticed a hearse and then two cars passing along the road and coming from the direction of the close. In that everlasting moment of time she knew that it was her daddy going by the window and this for her was her final goodbye to him. This goodbye would linger in her mind forever through all her tomorrows!
