For Daniel And Meghan’s Sake Part Three.

So everything and everyone was ready, there was no turning back now, we all had a job to do and we would do the work together, to get it done quickly. Andrew and Mick were the natural foremen; they got everyone organized where they should start and what they should be doing. The Skip was quickly filled!

There were items I’d forgotten that was in the garden, some I kept and some I said could go in the skip. At 09.30am they all stopped for refreshments, I made mugs of hot tea or coffee for those who wanted it, only one wanted Pepsi; they ate outside as they were dusty. They found a lovely solid wooden mantelpiece, they put it carefully in the hall by the front door of the house, it was beautiful Paul had a good eye for things like that and he liked old things too, like the mantelpiece, with its carvings and shape. They also found a large plank of thick dark wood. I remembered when he struggled to bring it home from where he had found it, it was about three yards long and a perfect square in shape looking at it from either end and it was about five inch square, they told me it was 100% rotten, I said it had to stay but they said it was no good now, so sadly that went in the skip!! His beautiful white large oblong sink was also found and that was kept safe and left in the garden.

The roses that I’d forgotten, that I had planted were rediscovered and it was good to see them again, their peach, red, yellow and cream colours, warmed my heart, for they are my favourite flower and the lavenders that reminded me of my favourite Aunt they too were found again..... There had been so many dreams for this garden!     

One of the bests finds for me, was when they found Paul’s prized projects, his beloved bonsai trees, it was amazing that only one of them had died! Then it started to rain! They all went in the entry and used it as a natural break time of about fifteen minutes, for although they were outside, there they had shelter, and then they carried on in the rain, for time was of the essence!

I was sent to get the lawn from the garden centre; the turf was rolled up grass, ready to unroll on top of the freshly tilled soil, then on my return back home was asked where I would like to have my (luxury) clothes line I showed them where and went to the shop and bought one. I was SO excited! To be able to hang out clothes, bed linen and anything I wanted would be just fantastic!!! Instead of draping them round the house.

The lads did a fantastic job, and soon it was finished. It looked amazing!!! They couldn’t believe how big the garden was and knew that although Paul didn’t know about it, that he would be pleased, for they had saved us a lot of work, time and money. My tummy flipped with butterflies for I knew Paul.... he is my Husband after all.

The sandwiches that were left over and the unopened drinks were given to the lads to take. The four lads were given their £20 each, knowing Andrew and Mick had already had theirs when they came to assess the garden. I thanked them all and they left an hour early, I also thanked God that the work had been done, and that everything had been completed, well within the time frame. Paul was due home at 14.15 and then I would have to face the music!
