Babylon is gone!…

… and so many soon-forgotten despots …
'Babylon the great
full of pride and lust,
will soon be ruins, dust:
its rulers, armies now
such feared men –
deserted then.'
Much later its flamboyant buildings
found by archeologists digging
in the wind-blown ground.
And what of tyrants cruel
long seemingly immovable,
callous rule:
Who remembers Idi Amin
Ceaușescu, Hoxha,
the fear of encroaching communism’s
dominion and malice,
secret police
and other rising regimes?
persecution of belief, no relief,
forced speech, no discussion, no dissent.
Self-confident and harsh;
neglecting opportunities to reign humanely,
more kindly:
done, gone, forgotten,
like Babylon.
“Babylon will suddenly fall and be broken. … Babylon will be a heap of ruins, … I will send destroyers against her, declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 51:8, 37, 53

This so reminds me of
This so reminds me of Ozymandias, likewise "look upon my works yet mighty and despair"; so we have to believe, that one day Trump, Putin, KimJon Un, Netanjahu, to name just a few of the contemorary tyrants, will one day be overthrown by justice; if not...........
