Poor man.

I know he seemed a little odd.

Maybe he did cheat deliberately

Or exaggerate.

I don't know

Time will tell.

 

But he didn't need to die for it.

'I didn't murder anyone', he said.

And now the media has murdered him.

Jason Arday? Media harassment and racism? It's sickening. What an awful world we live in.

Thanks Turlough. This was just some academic dispute, probably boring as hell to most of us. I can't understand the media feeding frenzy.  It turned into a lynch mob. What a horrible species we are.

I’m not always up to date with British news so I had to go googling to see what was going on. Maybe he did do wrong but I doubt if he’d have been subjected to the same level of abuse if he’d been white.

I agree with you. There'll be people out there laughing tonight. Sometimes I feel ashamed to be a member of this species.

Charlotte Proudman had a good article in The Independent pointing out that many white professors are accused of, and found guilty of, sexual harassment of their students, but the professors never get subjected to a media witch hunt.

I thought James Cleverly gave a very balanced statement about it. He pretty much said that Jason Arday was parachuted into a professorship so that Cambridge could have 'bragging rights' (He's black !  He's so young ! Aren't we so diverse !) without doing due diligence to see if  Arday's academic achievements suited him for the post. Of course Arday wasn't going to turn it down.  Then when it all went wrong he had so far to fall.

So, according to Cleverly (who is, of course, black himself),  Arday was appointed because he was black, and then ripped apart in the media for the same reason.

It's not very often that what James Cleverly has to say makes sense, but on this occasion I'd say that he's right. And I suspect that this isn't the first time a predominantly white organisation's attempt to make it look inclusive has failed tragically.
