Forgotten

Dancing in the breeze
oak trees sway,
marking the grave,
showing the way
for those who, as in life
are half-hearted in concern -
a guilt-twinged visit
before it becomes their turn.
In life overlooked -
a nameless face,
another girl
in another place.
People passed by,
calmly ignoring
outstretched hands,
desperately imploring.
She lived without help,
devoid of hope,
all she saw was despair
and she couldn't cope.
She cut herself off
and prepared to die,
now thoroughly sick
of living a lie.
Her life ended as quietly
As it had begun,
Noticed by few,
Mourned by none.
The coffin remained
unadorned by flowers
and her untimely end
was forgotten in hours.
***
Few paid their respects
and fewer still do.
An abandoned grave
decorated with dew.
The only ones to come
to make their peace
are those that wait
for their own release.
Dancing in the breeze
oak trees sway,
marking a grave,
showing a way.
A warning left,
to those who remain.
And yet this still happens
again and again.
