MASK OF SINCERITY
I see that you've put many masks on my face
I'll live up to them when I can
I may fail
But when the man in his throne wants Brutus
and the women at the table want Judas
I can only be faint-hearted in my betrayal
I made what I have from many voices
I heard them playing to an empty house
and rehearsed
But when my armour requires irony
and my desires bid me be stony
I only sound inattentive and hushed
I see that you aren't pleased by the masks you made
For me to wear in your presence
They're old
But when you don't have the time for a witch
and you need a place for your distrust
I'm impotent. I can't satisfy. I fold.
